Why braided instead of conduit
Conduit and fittings do the job, but they're bulky, they don't like tight bends, and every fitting is one more thing that can work loose. A braided harness is a tidier way to protect the same wiring.
Braided sleeving sits close around the wires, so the harness is neat and easy to route. It flexes with the machine, which matters around hinges, booms and anything else that moves. It also resists abrasion, and rubbing is one of the most common ways a loom fails on plant. We've compared the two in more detail in braided harness vs conduit.
Built for dust, water and vibration
A harness on a ute tray or a machine boom lives a hard life. We size the cable for the load, use connectors suited to wet and dusty conditions, and finish the ends so the braid doesn't fray or slide.
Where the harness passes through a panel or around a sharp edge, it gets extra protection. Breakouts are placed to suit the machine, so each lead reaches its component without being stretched or kinked.
Replacement harnesses for damaged machines
Looms get crushed, chafed, chewed by rodents and cooked by heat. Sometimes a repair is the right call, and sometimes there's so much damage that a new harness is the more reliable fix.
If the replacement part has a long lead time, or isn't made any more, a custom harness can get the machine back to work. We build it to match the original, and we can improve the routing where the old one kept wearing through.
What to send us
The more we know up front, the quicker we can quote and build. This is what helps most.
- Photos of the harness in place, both ends, every connector and any damage
- The old harness itself, if it's already out of the machine
- Connector details: the plug type, the number of pins and any part numbers
- Lengths from end to end, plus where each branch breaks out
- What each circuit runs, and a wiring diagram if you have one
- How many you need, and whether you want us to fit them
Where braided harnesses fit in
We build custom wiring harnesses for trucks, plant and machinery across Newcastle and the Hunter, for fleet vehicle fit-outs, new machine set-ups and repairs on damaged gear. On a ute or truck fit-out, braid suits the runs that flex every day, like the wiring to a camera on the tailgate or lights on a canopy door. Because we're mobile, we can fit them on site too.
We build for business vehicles, plant and machinery only. Sorry to the project car crowd, but private cars, caravans and boats aren't work we take on.
